HOUSEBILL 18 (HB18) MIDDLE SCHOOL CURRICULUM SEQUENCE

The HB18 legislation was signed into law June 2015 to bolster the college and career advising available to students in middle school.  The statewide initiative requires each school district to provide instruction to students in grade seven and eight in preparing for high school, college, and possible careers and continue to update in high school. NISD campuses may meet the HB18  requirement administering the following CCMR curriculum resources by grade Level:

  • 6th Gr

    • Xello (access through Classlink)- Interests, Decision Making & Time Management Lessons

    • Xello (access through Classlink)-Create a Profile, set Goals & Plans and create a Portfolio

    • Everfi (access through Classlink)-Modules by grade level in: Financial Ed, STEM & Career Readiness, Social Emotional Learning/Digital Safety, Health & Wellness, Early Academic Readiness, & Cultural Literacy

    • O*Net Interest Profiler

  • 7th Gr

    • Xello (access through Classlink)-Discover Learning Pathways, Biases & Career Choices, and Jobs & Employers Lessons

    • Xello (access through Classlink)-Update Profile, Goals & Plans, update Portfolio, Take Learning Style & Interest Inventory

Additional activities activities that may meet HB18 are, but not limited to, EMERGE presentations, supplemental college and career curriculum, college and career fairs, and CTE classes.  Xello & Everfi modules and resources are also available for high school students.
