Grading Policy, Expectations, and Strategies for Success
Grading
Tests/Quizzes/Practicum 50%
Labs/Projects 30%
Daily work 10%
Homework 10%
REMEMBER:  LATE WORK MUST BE MADE UP BEFORE OR AFTER SCHOOL, DONE IN MY PRESENCE ONLY TO BE ACCEPTED FOR A MAXIMUM GRADE OF 70.  The only exception is absences and those must be proven excused with a BLUE admit slip from the office.  If you were absent one day, you must turn it in no more than one day after due date.  If your individualized education plan states that you will have extra time to complete assignments, you will have an additional day, not an unlimited amount of time.  THIS DOES NOT APPLY TO HONORS COURSES - NO LATE WORK IN HONORS COURSES.
CLASSROOM EXPECTATIONS
Students should be in their assigned seat when the bell rings.
Students should take care of restroom needs, etc. between classes.
Students should bring materials to class and be prepared.
Students should follow all instructions and stay on task without being disruptive.
Students should THINK, never say "I don't know."
STRATEGIES FOR SUCCESS
Complete all assignments in a timely manner.
Be attentive in class, ask questions when you don't understand.
Use study guides that are given for tests.
Stay organized, old tests and journals are a great way to study for final exams and TAKS tests.
Everything you are learning is going to be useful - for TAKS, for college, for life.  Stay focused on learning!

A little about Mrs. Hartley...
This is my fourth year at Navarro, and my tenth year as a full time teacher.  I love the Navarro students and community!  I live in the district, with my husband and two of my daughters (who attend Navarro Intermediate School.)
Though I was born in Austin, Texas, I grew up in Arizona.  I am a graduate of Arizona State University with a BS in Health Science.  I have completed post graduate work in Education and Science through Ottawa Univerity in Phoenix, AZ, and through Texas State University.
I have attended many exciting workshops.  My favorites were:   Food Science in Washington, DC;  Nuclear Physics in Idaho; and Video Analysis in Baytown, TX.
I hold Texas Teaching Certificates in Composite Science, 8-12 and Health EC-12.
