Key Facts About Flu Vaccine:

There are two types of vaccines:

The "flu shot" — an inactivated vaccine (containing killed virus) that is given with a needle, usually in the arm. The flu shot is approved for use in people older than 6 months, including healthy people and people with chronic medical conditions.

The nasal-spray flu vaccine — a vaccine made with live, weakened flu viruses that do not cause the flu (sometimes called LAIV for "live attenuated influenza vaccine" or FluMist®). LAIV (FluMist®) is approved for use in healthy* people 2-49 years of age who are not pregnant.

If you have any questions regarding your child, please contact the campus health personnel at: Elementary-Heather Janysek RN 372-1930; Intermediate-Daca Miller, Health Aide 372-1943; Jr. High-Deanna Holtkamp, C.N.A. 401-5550; High School-Audrey Parker, R.N. 372-1931.

Audrey Parker R.N., District School Nurse

**If your child receives vaccines at his/her physician's office, please provide the campus nurse's office with a copy to update their school record.  Also, please remember all students are required by law to be up to date with all of their required vaccines.  School will send reminders but it is ultimately the parents responsibility to be sure their child is vaccinated.

**If you feel your child needs to have certain medical attention during school hours, please contact me at 830-372-1931 ext. 5012 so we can plan a time for us to sit down and discuss a health care plan for your child.

Nursing Philosophy

We believe in the holistic student, affirming them as having inalienable rights, self worth, dignity, and responsibility. We will not judge a student based on gender, age, ethnicity, religion, political or socioeconomic status. The school health program personnel will serve as a liason between student, staff, community, and home. We believe school is a pathway where education, demonstration, and guidance can be utilized to provide a means to good health.
